The German-American
exchange program with Florence-Darlington Technical College
is a
partnership involving Berufbildende Schule (BBS) III. The
inaugural exchange took place sometime
in the 1990's with
grant money supporting the exchange on both sides.
Lisa Callihan secured the
grant for our school under the
direction of Dr. Charles Muse. Dr. Markus Bohner was
one of the
early participants and teachers of classes from
BBS III. In
the early years of the exchange program, instructors from
both schools visited the other
along with various groups of
students. Joint courses were taught by the schools in
such subjects
as International Business and Economics.
While the grant money for each school has run out,
FDTC and
BBS III still continue to provide their students with
educational and cultural opportunities
through video
conference (ITV: interactive television) and student
exchanges.
As head of the
International Program for FDTC, Mitch House plays a
significant and active
role in handling the student
exchanges. Hartmut Richter (Senior Faculty Member)
has been in
charge of the student exchanges and led the
participation of BBS III in video conference sessions
for
the last five years. In the last year, he has not only
led these sessions, but he has been responsible
for
increasing the involvement of German instructors. BBS
III faculty who have helped lead these sessions
include:
Sabine Paul, Inka Bergman, Gisela Briem, Manuela Reiter, and
Claudia Schley.
For the last five
years, Steven Weingartner has represented FDTC in helping to
lead these sessions
and has participated in involving FDTC
students as part of the exchange of students. As the
webmaster
for the Business Department, he has also created
these pages (which are long overdue). If you see any
information that needs to be corrected, please contact:
steven.weingartner@fdtc.edu.
Florence-Darlington
Technical College owes Mr. Richter a debt of gratitude for
single-handedly
ensuring the continued success of the
program by taking direct responsibility of the ITV sessions
and
student exchanges on the part of BBS III. His
dedication, support, and commitment is the theme of
the
commemorative picture being used to represent the special
relationship between our schools.
Thank You!
This section will
continue to be developed to encourage participation by
students of both schools
and include cases for future
discussion. If you would like to make any suggestions,
please contact me at the
above email address.
